A new chapter in Ellenboro’s history began Thursday, October 8, as the community celebrated the grand opening of Colfax Cotton Gin Park. Located along Main Street, the park transforms a historic industrial property into a welcoming public space for recreation, entertainment, and community gatherings.
The project is part of the Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority’s (TDA) Rutherford Bound initiative, which continues to support community revitalization, tourism development, and quality-of-life improvements throughout Rutherford County.

Honoring the Past, Investing in the Future
Built in 1928, the Colfax Cotton Gin was closely connected to the agricultural and textile industries that helped shape Ellenboro’s history. After operating for more than 80 years, the facility eventually closed, and the Town of Ellenboro acquired the property with a vision of transforming it into a community park.
Today, the revitalized site features a pavilion, performance stage, playground, and gathering spaces designed to accommodate festivals, concerts, markets, and other community activities. The park complements Ellenboro’s longstanding traditions of civic pride and community celebrations, while creating new opportunities to attract visitors and support the local economy.
The October 8 ribbon-cutting celebration featured refreshments and live music, bringing residents, community leaders, and project partners together to recognize this important milestone.

A Community-Driven Success
The completion of Colfax Cotton Gin Park reflects years of dedication by the Town of Ellenboro, its elected officials, the Ellenboro Beautification Committee, community volunteers, and project partners who worked together to bring the vision to life.
“This project is a great example of what Rutherford Bound is all about, helping our communities build on their unique history and character while creating places that residents and visitors can enjoy,” said Don Cason, Executive Director of the Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority. “The Town of Ellenboro and its Beautification Committee deserve tremendous credit for their commitment and determination to see this project through.”

Part of a Countywide Vision
Colfax Cotton Gin Park represents another milestone for Rutherford Bound, which continues to support investments in parks, trails, downtown improvements, and community destinations across Rutherford County.
“It's important that our tourism investments reach communities throughout the county, including eastern Rutherford County,” Cason added. “Projects like Colfax Cotton Gin Park create new reasons for people to visit, and also improve the quality of life for the people who live here. That's the kind of lasting impact we want Rutherford Bound to have.”
For Ellenboro, the opening marks the realization of a shared community vision and the beginning of a new chapter for a landmark property. By preserving a connection to its agricultural heritage while creating a vibrant public gathering place, Colfax Cotton Gin Park will serve residents and visitors for generations to come.
