North Slope Skate and Ride – Spindale

At the heart of Spindale’s revitalization efforts, the North Slope Skate and Ride is quickly taking shape. With the skate park and pump track now complete, efforts are focused on the site amenities that will make this a true community hub. Construction is in progress on the public plaza and 20-by-20 - foot covered picnic shelter—spaces where spectators, skaters and riders, families, and visitors can rest, picnic, and gather.
The sidewalk that will connect the park to downtown Spindale and the 13.5-mile Thermal Belt Rail Trail is also nearly complete. Once finished, this space will support not only day-to-day users but also future events and tournaments that bring people together through action sports.
This project not only gives local youth a dedicated space to skate and ride, but also strengthens Spindale’s downtown by linking it to the county’s broader trail and recreation network.
Norris Park Disc Golf Course – Rutherfordton

Rutherfordton’s transformation of the former municipal golf course into a tournament-level disc golf destination is well underway, despite slight delays due to weather impacts from Hurricane Helene and inclement weather conditions.
Crews have begun clearing trees and brush to open up the fairways and prepare for installation of tee boxes and baskets. The layout is designed to challenge experienced players while remaining accessible to casual disc golfers.
Site work is also moving forward on supportive amenities, including a restroom building and pavilion, both of which have foundational piers in place. Slabs for these facilities will be poured soon, with vertical construction to follow. The parking lot and connecting paths throughout the park have been rough graded and will move toward paving after the installation of a retaining wall.
As work continues, Norris Park will become a recreational anchor for the community—and a draw for disc golf enthusiasts across the region.
Legacy Soccer Park – Forest City

Significant progress has been made at Legacy Soccer Park, a recreation hub that is poised to become a major draw for regional sports tourism. Located in Forest City, the six-field complex will have the capacity to host large-scale tournaments, boosting economic activity while giving local athletes a world-class place to play.
The facility will feature a championship-grade artificial turf field, five natural turf fields, and two mini urban soccer pitches. A main building will house concessions and restrooms, while a shaded gathering area and playground will round out a space built for both competition and community connection.
Construction is moving forward steadily, laying the groundwork for what will become a vibrant, year-round community destination. The artificial turf is in place, the natural fields are fully sodded, mini pitches nearly complete, and buildings, lighting, fencing, and landscaping are all in various stages of final installation.
Legacy Soccer Park is part of a broader effort to expand access to outdoor spaces and support youth sports across the region.
